Dear Aquatics Parents and Supporters:

Villa Park High School’s Aquatics Boosters (VPHS AEP) successfully fulfilled its mission of supporting VPHS aquatics programs during the fiscal year completed June 30, 2014.  Attached please find a copy of our Federal Form 990 which was recently submitted to the IRS and allow me to share with you some booster club highlights from the past year.

With major efforts around the installation of new team room and storage containers behind us, this year we continued upgrading and replacing aquatics equipment.  Most significantly we had to replace both water polo goals as cracked arms made them unusable; boosters were able to complete the replacement on short notice just in time for a spring tournament.  Early in the year we had repairs made to shot clocks which enabled display of game time opposite scoreboard side of pool and enabled clocks to work with battery power again.  During swim season new cables were required to eliminate problems we were having with the starting system.

Changes in water polo rules taking effect in July 2015 will require caps to have three numbers rather than the two that have historically been required.  In order to position ourselves to have two complete sets each of home and away caps, we purchased one set of each this year.  The booster club also purchased Villa Park Aquatics rugs for boys’ and girls’ team rooms.  And we continue to maintain the Villa Park Aquatics web site which, in June, approached 1,800 monthly visits.

In addition to the above, your booster club contributions made many things possible for VPHS Aquatics.

·        Booster club supported the third Senior Scholars field trip for senior aquatic athletes maintaining a four year 3.5 GPA.

·        Once again, 1,000 league lunches were served through the course of water polo and swimming seasons.

·        Athlete apparel including t-shirts, polo shirts, and suits was provided to all participants in swimming and water polo.

·        Senior recognition events took place at the end of each season.

·        End of season banquets were held including awards and gifts.

The Booster Club’s largest source of revenue, as in past years, was parent contributions totaling $42,000 for athlete participation in each sport.  This year’s overall contribution rate was in excess of 90%, allowing each sport to run in the black.

We also had an exceptional fundraising year bringing in an additional $23,000.  Included in this figure is $11,000 from hosting tournaments such as Junior Olympics.  Fundraising also included $5,300 from snack bar, $4,000 from polo ball sponsors, and $4,100 from Spartan Classic.  Six smaller fundraisers brought in an additional $2,400.

The Booster Club finished the year in a strong financial position with operating capital of $32,000.  In addition, we continue to maintain a reserve of $12,000 for potential district charges related to the team room.  Even with fundraising likely to be lower next year as we won’t have the benefit of hosting Junior Olympics, VPHS Aquatics Boosters is well positioned to support Villa Park’s aquatics program in the year ahead.

It is also important to recognize the significant investment of time our parents put into the program.  In addition to direct support of our athletes, volunteer time is given to the program in many forms.  A number of parents turned out for our fall work day during which we fixed shades, painted outside of team rooms, assembled exercise bikes, repainted two and five meter lines on pool deck, and repaired and painted bleachers.  Throughout the year our families stepped up to run the snack bar, host team dinners, coordinate team banquets, manage fundraisers, run timing system, update web site, send regular communications, and handle a host of other activities.  The success of the Villa Park aquatics program couldn’t happen without our coaches, financial support, and a whole lot of parent involvement.

I look forward to seeing all of you at our booster club meetings and wearing Spartan colors at the pool in the year ahead.

Go Spartans!
